The 4 Parts of Medicare—Explained Clearly
Medicare is divided into four main parts, each offering coverage for specific services. Here's what you need to know.
Part A – Hospital Insurance
✅ Covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing facility care, hospice, and some home health care.
✅ Usually premium-free if you worked and paid Medicare taxes.
How to enroll: Automatically enrolled at age 65 if you're already receiving Social Security. Otherwise, sign up through SSA.gov.
Part B – Medical Insurance
✅ Covers doctor visits, outpatient care, preventive services, and medical supplies.
✅ Monthly premium required.
How to enroll: You can enroll during your Initial Enrollment Period (around your 65th birthday) or during General Enrollment from Jan 1 – Mar 31 each year.
Part C – Medicare Advantage
✅ Combines Part A & B with extra benefits like dental, vision, hearing, gym memberships, and even transportation.
✅ Offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare.
